Crux Communications is a pocket-sized PR agency providing marketing support for businesses and social enterprises.

The company’s ethos is summed up in the strapline “Telling your story”. That means getting the word out about your business using a mix of methods, tailored to whatever is right for you and your particular audience.

The end-to-end service covers press releases, social media, website content, branding advice and general consultancy – as well as the all-important, but often forgotten, element of making the right connections. Other services like photography, design and video can also be arranged in order to ensure a joined-up campaign. Clients include high-profile companies like Malik House and Yorkshire Enterprise Network, through SMEs in a broad range of sectors, to start-ups who’ve needed help in getting going with their marketing plans.

Over recent months, Crux Communications has been very much focused on the hospitality sector, supporting many of the new bars and restaurants opened as part of the Bradford City Centre revival. Ongoing clients include Bradford Brewery, BrewHaus, Stein Bierkeller, Circle and Tiki-O Nightclubs, with start-up packages provided to The Beerhouse and Café Bell-A-Pizza among others.

Owner Gerry Crookes has been a key player in the #bigupbradford campaign helping to promote the city’s renaissance at every opportunity, be it in print, online or in person at networking events. Gerry started out as a local journalist clocking up more than 20 years’ experience, and still maintains a strong network of media contacts. She later moved into local authority PR before working for a top Leeds agency where she expanded her skills into the broader marketing and social media fields.

She is a shareholder in the Fox & Goose, in Hebden Bridge – West Yorkshire’s only Co-operative pub – having conducted a successful crowdfunding publicity campaign which raised £130,000 to buy and refurbish the pub for the local community. Gerry says: “Marketing is a must for any business, big or small. If you have the best product or service in the world what’s the point if no-one knows about it? Every person and every business has a story to tell and Crux Communications will identify that story and get it out there, using a range of methods to reach the right customers for you.”

And none of this needs to cost the earth. Crux Communications offers a range of packages including ongoing retainers, a great-value day rate or hourly rates for those who need to publicise events or issue news releases on an ad hoc basis. There are also special rates available for charities and social enterprises.
